Exploring snake venom

Venom is, at its heart, specialized saliva, a cocktail of proteins that overcome prey far faster than teeth alone.

Each lineage wield different venoms. Some disrupt the nervous system, while others break down blood or tissue.

For the snake, venom is chiefly a tool for catching food, not attack; defense is a backup use.

Hollow or grooved fangs deliver the venom efficiently into a bite.
