About the breed

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a toy breed descended from the small spaniels favoured by English royalty, notably King Charles II, from whom it takes its name. The modern Cavalier was recreated in the early twentieth century to resemble these historic companions, with a longer muzzle than the related King Charles Spaniel.

Gentle, affectionate and eager to please, the Cavalier is a quintessential lap dog that adapts readily to most households, from busy families to quieter homes. It enjoys moderate exercise and relishes human company, disliking being left alone for long. The silky, feathered coat needs regular brushing, and the breed is known to be predisposed to certain heart and neurological conditions.
