About the breed

The Labrador Retriever is consistently one of the most popular breeds in the world, prized for its even temperament, trainability and genuine affection for people. Originally developed in Newfoundland to help fishermen retrieve nets and haul lines, the breed was later refined in Britain into the versatile gundog recognised today. Its short, dense double coat is water-resistant, and the characteristic 'otter' tail aids swimming.

Labradors are highly biddable and excel in roles ranging from assistance and guide work to search and rescue and field sports. They require considerable daily exercise and mental stimulation, and their love of food means weight management is essential. With an affectionate, patient nature, the Labrador remains an outstanding family companion.
