About the breed

The Persian is one of the most glamorous and enduringly popular of all pedigree cats, named for its origins in Persia, modern-day Iran. It is instantly recognisable for its long, flowing coat, round face, small ears and large expressive eyes. Modern show Persians typically have a notably flat face, though traditional 'doll-face' lines retain a more moderate muzzle.

Gentle, quiet and affectionate, Persians are placid companions that prefer serene, predictable surroundings to boisterous activity. Their luxurious coat demands daily grooming to prevent matting, and as a brachycephalic breed they can be prone to tear staining and breathing concerns. They reward patient, attentive owners with calm, devoted companionship.
