About the breed
The Russian Blue is an elegant, naturally occurring breed thought to have originated in the port city of Arkhangelsk in northern Russia, from where it was carried to Europe by sailors. It is renowned for its dense, plush double coat of a shimmering blue-grey with silver-tipped guard hairs, and its vivid green eyes.
Gentle, quiet and somewhat reserved, the Russian Blue tends to be shy with strangers but intensely loyal and affectionate with its chosen family. It is intelligent and sensitive, appreciating routine and a calm environment. The short, dense coat is easy to maintain and the breed is often cited as producing fewer allergens than many other cats.
