About the breed
The Sphynx is a striking hairless breed that originated in Canada in the 1960s from a natural genetic mutation, later developed through selective breeding. Though it appears bald, the skin is usually covered in a fine, downy fuzz and is warm and soft to the touch, often likened to suede or a warm peach.
Sphynx cats are extroverted, affectionate and highly energetic, craving warmth and constant companionship, and often seeking out laps and blankets. The lack of a coat means the skin produces oils that would normally be absorbed by fur, so regular bathing is needed, and the breed should be protected from cold and strong sun. They are social, playful and devoted to their people.
